Shoe technology – Quality made visible

The shoe can be subjected to very high stresses. With every step, the seams of the shoe are exposed to extreme stresses in all manner of weather condi - tions. The shoe not only performs a protective function, however, but has also become an important fashion accessory for many wearers, one which conveys a certain “lifestyle”. The manufacturing of the shoe upper plays a key role here.

Hightech material processed with hightech machines

Segment Brochures "Composites"

The constantly growing innovative textiles market specifically affects the fiber composites-segment. Here fibers made from carbon, glass, Kevlar® or natural fibers are processed to make particularly light-weight components that are subject to high levels of stress. Both known sewing and special one-side application methods are being used here.

Counting on more than 50 years of experience in the field of technical textiles, KSL has developed functional heads which when combined with robotic systems allow 3D-processing. KSL’s specialty is the development and construction of special sewing heads in combination with the synchronization of the robot movement with the sewing drive. This way a reproducibly consistent stitch length is achieved. In addition to one-side sewing heads, lockstitch or 2-thread chain stitch machine technology is also integrated into such systems.

The integration of ultrasonic cutting heads for dry fabrics or prepreg-materials as well as functional heads for measuring and handling jobs are established.Laying heads and Z-pinning heads were developed to precisely introduce or apply reinforcements. The systems are future-oriented and equipped with tool changers so a subsequent extension is possible at any time. We would be happy to develop specific solutions together with you and are looking forward to your feedback!

Modern joining of technical textiles

Segment Brochures "Welding"

On the continuously growing market of innovative textiles joining methods are constantly being scrutinized. For quite some time needle and thread have been losing their claim to exclusivity in this field. During the sewing process the needle penetrates the textile fabric and pulls a thread behind it.
In “regular” textiles this does not leave behind any major damage. In technical textiles it could, however, destroy the surface and thus compromise the textile properties. Welding machines on the other hand join thermoplastic materials using hot air, contact heat (hot wedge), ultrasound or high frequency without affecting material properties. Moreover, welding offers additional advantages e. g. high impermeability (watertight, gastight, airtight), no disruptive resp. bulky seam, no use of consumables such as needle, thread or glue.

Without a doubt, PFAFF INDUSTRIAL has for decades been the leader in innovation and technology for the welding techniques hot wedge, hot air and ultrasound. Among others, PFAFF INDUSTRIAL launched milestones like the first ultrasound machine featuring a rolling sonotrode, the first programmable welding machine or the first welding machine featuring edge trimming. The spectrum ranges from standard machines to fully automatic customized systems, some of which are manufactured at PFAFF INDUSTRIAL’s KSL-site in Lorsch. Since 2013 Dürkopp Adler and PFAFF INDUSTRIAL (featuring the KSL-brand) have been united under the umbrella of Shanggong (Europe) Holding and can rely on a sales network that is unparalleled in the world.

This segment brochure outlines all current welding solutions within the group. Of course, we would be happy to plan and realize your very own solution together with you. We are looking forward to your feedback.
